What to Bring to University?

Second semester examination has ended! & my freshman year has ended too (will be a sophomore on the upcoming semester this September). I’m having my semester break now for about 2 months! I’ve been planning to post once a week but last week I was busy of Eid Mubarak celebration. So yeah, I’m excited to continue posting & hoping to post regularly every week.

So for today’s post is about what are the must bring items that you may be really helpful & items that you must firstly have on starting  a university life. I have been living in a university for almost one year already & I have experience myself what were the mostly basic needed items & what are the items that’s not really important to bring on your first day at a university. I’m hoping this might help you a bit especially to those who has no idea what to bring to university. Ganbatte to the freshman!

Laptop

You’ll be needing this to do your assignments or taking notes from lecture. In my first year, I used an ordinary laptop until I know that I have to use larger RAM to do mapping stuffs on ArcGIS (Imma geography student) this is because mapping need to have higher RAM on your laptop for a better performance while you’re doing your work. Thus, it's easier to carry around :D

Printer

This item also needed so you can easily print out your assignments or handouts without worrying where you can print all of that docs. At my university, there’s a lot of students who are promoting their printing services but for me, it is more worth to get your own printer because you don’t have to pay for each documents you print (sometimes printing are pricey) & you don’t have to walk to the student’s room.

Computer Mouse

This will come in handy for you especially for you who'll use mouse for the courses that will do mapping, codding or graphic drawing on laptop.

Blanket, Bedsheet & Pillow

As I know, most universities did not provide blanket, bedsheet & a pillow. So, bring these for your own.

Study Lamp

In some universities, you have to share room with others. Getting your own study lamp is a good way if you are a person that likely to stay up late for studying or doing your works on your table. This is because  there might be some of your roommate will switch off the light earlier to sleep & you didn’t want to interrupt their sleep with the lights turning on.

Extra Phone

Okay, this is based on classmate’s experience where her phone is broken & couldn’t communicate with us in a WhatsApp group. At that time, she was in charge to handle the order for foods but failed to get the latest info from our chairman in WhatsApp and failed to search for her. In this case, bring along an extra phone so you can keep in touch on important things in case your phone is broken or lost.

Extra Shoes

I’m studying at a university that has a quite large place. I mostly walk around & my shoes are frequently damaged xD I advise you to buy quality shoes & have extra for it.

Jacket/Sweater

Before this, I never expected that a lecture hall would be soooo freezing xD at my university, the air-conditioner has turned to a lower temperature where it makes student gets freezing most of the time (I feel this is kinda stupid) I think it’s because of the hot temperature at my country that makes them do that. btw, just have a jacket or sweater to put you in a warm condition if you need to.

Stationaries

Word pad & pens were also important on jotting down something, you can’t just use laptop all the time cause your laptop may be in a low battery.

Backpack

Of course you’ll be using a backpack to carry around your laptop, files & notebooks to lecture.

Documents

Also bring your important documents like your birth certificate, ID card, driving license or any certificate that you think you’ll need later.

Snacks

Buy some snacks & store it at your room. I recommend you to have a high carbohydrate food like breads, oats or biscuits cause these kind of food will store more energy when you are lazy to go to the cafeteria or it’s already late at night where the cafeteria has closed. At least have some for you to eat. Students best friends are instant noodles xD

Electric Kettle

Most students will be buying this to heat up water to make coffees & instant noodle. However, there some other way to use this item. Instead of only heating up waters, you can also cook rice (especially for Asians) & side dishes  cool right? It could save your money from buying foods.

Plate, Mug & Spoon

At least have one for each of those items for you to use when eating.

Medicines/ First Aid Kit

Pack some painkillers, bandages, antiseptic cream, fever reliever pack or inhaler in a kit that you’ll be needing in case an emergency happens. Also, if you have any disease like asthma, be sure not to forget to bring your medicines.

Bucket & Bathroom Basket

Some countries are taking bucket bath (using a bucket to store water for bathing). For peoples who practices this kind of culture, don’t forget to bring your bucket & bailer for bathing & a bathroom basket that will gather your bathroom stuffs in a basket so it’s easy to carry & didn’t cluttered everywhere.

Extension Cord

There isn’t much sockets in a room so you might need it for you to able to have more sockets to charge your gadgets like laptops & phones.
